Designed to reduce waste, cost, and complexity
We are committed to reducing our environmental impact while delivering innovative, cost-effective care solutions you can depend on.
Where Sustainability Meets Performance
Our approach to sustainability integrates clinical performance with environmental responsibility. From the sensor design to our end-of-life recycling program, every step is built with the future in mind.

With RD SET®, we’ve reimagined our pulse oximetry sensors from the inside out—improving performance while reducing environmental impact compared to traditional cable-based sensors.1
RD SET sensors are also Greenhealth Approved®, making them the first in their category to obtain this recognition by meeting rigorous criteria for environmental responsibility in clinical products.
Sustainable Sensors for Every Patient
Whether lightweight and cable-based or completely wireless, Masimo single-patient-use sensors are designed with the environment in mind.
Know the Risks of Third-party Reprocessing
Reprocessed single-use sensors may seem like a cost-effective and sustainable choice, but leading organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO) and Joint Commission International warn they can compromise both safety and performance.2,3
Risks include cross-infection, residual endotoxins, and material degradation from repeated use or poor validation.2,3
That’s why we recommend original Masimo sensors and a tape-based reuse strategy.
See a side-by-side comparison:
Original Masimo Sensors vs. Third-party Reprocessed Sensors | Masimo RD SET Sensors | Third-party Reprocessed RD SET Sensors |
---|---|---|
Does the sensor have best-in-class accuracy specifications? | YES 30% better SpO2 accuracy specifications4,5* |
NO |
Are SpO2 and pulse rate indicated for use during motion and low perfusion? | YES | NO SpO2 and pulse rate not indicated for use during motion2 |
Is the sensor indicated for neonatal use? | YES | NO Not indicated for neonatal use by the FDA5 |
Does the sensor offer a way to reduce costs and waste at the bedside? | YES Sensor life can be maximized at the bedside with replacement tapes6 |
NO |
*ARMS accuracy is a statistical calculation of the difference between device measurements and reference measurements. Approximately two-thirds of the device measurements fell within ± ARMS of the reference measurements in a controlled study.
Reprocessing at the Bedside
Our replacement tapes offer a simple way to maximize sensor life, helping reduce waste—and potentially overall sensor costs—while preserving clinical performance.
of waste kept out
of landfills so far1
Replacement tapes have already helped divert over 480 MT from landfills to date.1
in single-patient-use
sensor usage6
A peer-reviewed study of 12 hospital units found a 60% reduction in single-patient-use sensors by retaping with Masimo replacement tapes, instead of reprobing, allowing clinicians to “recheck and reposition sensor sites with minimal cost and difficulty.”6
Moving Toward Zero Waste to Landfill, Together
Through our Sensor Recycling Program—available for all Masimo single-patient-use sensors—we make it easy for healthcare partners to reduce waste and recover valuable materials, moving us closer to zero waste to landfill.

Sustainability at Every Level
Our commitment to sustainability goes beyond design and manufacturing. We’re making meaningful changes across our operations and at our facilities to minimize our environmental impact.
Trees Saved1
Reducing Paper Waste
By transitioning to electronic Instructions for Use (eIFUs), we’ve already saved 11,000 trees and 22,000 cubic meters of water—reducing our environmental impact while improving efficiency.1
of Renewable Energy1
Investing in Clean Energy
Solar panels at our global headquarters have an annual projected production of ~1,000,000 kWh, helping power our operations with clean, renewable energy.1
